GRACE KRSUL-SULLIVAN

One of our documentaries takes its title from her naming. Making Grace is our film, but it's her story, her life, her truth rendered visible for an audience that needed - and still needs - to see it. An audience that today struggles to find freedom in family definition and queer love.

The trust required to be a documentary subject is profound. Her mothers allowed Aubin's cameras into the real, into the complexity and specificity of how she became Grace, and what they hoped she would become. Their generosity, and her growth and internalization of their valuable values is the foundation on which the film stands.

Aubin's Studio pillar is premised on working with communities and individuals before the camera ever rolls. She lived that commitment with us before she was born. And once she was all grown up, she shared with us her experiences of family, siblings, sisterhood, and daughterhood in a way we never expected. We honor her for that and the way she will keep becoming herself.

In 2019, Grace released her own 10-minute short, My New Family Tree, tracing her experience meeting her new half-siblings.
