Julie Mehretu - Luminary Page

Julie's paintings hold the world at a scale and velocity that few artists can summon. Abstract but not escapist, formally rigorous but politically alive. Cities, migrations, conflicts, the history of now, rendered in layers and marks and the particular electricity of her hand.

To have her in Aggie, to have her voice and her vision in conversation with Aggie's story of art and activism, was a gift to that film and to everyone who's seen it. And her support as Executive Producer of three of our films demonstrates something so important, that she put her name and her belief behind work she thinks the world needs.

We think the world needs her. We're profoundly grateful for her and her work.
