See what we're up to at Aubin Pictures.
Over the weekend, the Aubin team filmed the final interviews for Peculiar Silence: A Day in Angola. Directed by Cinque Northern, produced by Catherine Gund, featuring playwright and performer Liza Jessie Peterson (pictured in the above film still) and VOTE Executive Director Norris Henderson, Peculiar Silence tells the story of how Liza's 2020 performance of her acclaimed play “The Peculiar Patriot” was censored in America’s largest prison, Angola, the Louisiana State Penitentiary. Aubin team member Lauren La Melle line-produced the shoot. You can learn more about the film here.
Primera is programmed to premiere at Tribeca Film Festival's 20th anniversary edition this June 12, 2021. Produced in Association with Aubin Pictures, feature documentary film Primera tells the story of four parents-turned activists who are leading Chile’s revolutionary path to a new constitution. Filmed and edited over the course of 2020 in the midst of a global pandemic, Primera tells the brave and striking story of how the courage and resilience of citizen activists led millions of Chileans — 80 percent of the population — to a victorious vote for a new constitution. We’re thrilled to welcome Lauren La Melle to the Aubin team as the new Office Manager. Lauren is a filmmaker and poet. She earned her master’s degree in Media Studies from Pratt Institute, where she focused on the intersections of gender, race, and class in horror films. (Ask Lauren about her favorite horror movies. And then ask her about the horror screenplays she’s working on right now.)
