XAVIERA SIMMONS
Xaviera came up with our Sweet Pea producers, acknowledging a desire to support when support can come from many kinds of people with different kinds of resources. And she was our first Sweet Pea.
We've carried Sweet Peas forward and have several who have dedicated themselves to the “smaller, but intentional, generous, and consistent” way of participating in the ecosystem of filmmaking.
She appears in Aggie in the artist’s studio, truly Aggie’s Holy Grail. She's been an impact partner with us on that film's campaign. She's someone who doesn't just engage with this work from the outside but inhabits it, fully, with a big heart, and on her own terms in collaboration with ours.
Her art has always been engaged, with race, with image, with what it means to live in a body in a country that has very definite ideas about bodies and nationhood. Her engagement carries over into everything she touches, including her relationship with Aubin.
She's a force, and we're glad to have her in our orbit.
